Vera Shang is a multimedia journalist. She focuses on multimedia storytelling with in-depth investigation. Her work has been recognized at various media outlets.
Currently with Fortune’s video team, she produces videos and podcasts for both YouTube and social media, focusing on entrepreneurs' innovations and corporate governance. She pitches business news stories, conducts research, and interviews industry leaders and experts. Additionally, she designs animations using After Effects. Stories she covers include hotly discussed topics such as 3D printing, CEOs cashing out stocks, investigations into Temu’s headquarters, and luxury hotel management. Her latest video, covering Jamie Dimon’s management strategy, garnered 12,000 views in a week.
In 2023 she joined ABC News as an ABC News Fellow, awarded to outstanding early career journalists and included working at different platforms and shows at ABC News’ NYC office. During her time at Nightline, she contributed to the team’s coverage of TikTok CEO’s congress hearing, the death of Tyre Nichols, the Monterey Park shooting, the Russia-Ukraine war anniversary, Trump indictment, Israel–Hamas war, etc. Responding to last-minute requests, she cultivated real-time newsroom ethics to be precise and objective even at the most tumultuous moments.
Before joining ABC, she was a multimedia reporter at WUTR in Utica, New York, covering some of the most important events in Central New York, ranging from the zero-emission plan, midterm election, New York State wrongful death law update, chip factory reconstruction, rainbow fentanyl overdose, etc. Working as a one-woman band, she hosted on-air events, shot b-rolls, conducted interviews, and wrote scripts that equipped her with well-rounded knowledge to be a multimedia journalist.
She has also worked at China Central Television in Beijing as a producer on a multi-series documentary, “China Heritage” and Tencent Pictures’s drama series as a video editor.
With a fresh approach to journalism, recognized and awarded academic research, rigorous studies in film studies and creative writing, and a regional-cultural understanding of Asia and North America, Vera has an expansive skill set necessary in multimedia storytelling. She has acquired essential skills in line with the rapidly evolving industry and considers herself a world citizen.
